Karen Donoghue,
Principal
Karen has been designing innovative user interface technology
since 1987. A graduate of the MIT
Media Laboratory, she designs advanced user experiences for
a wide range of global clients. She
serves as an advisor to startups on the planning, design and development
of next-generation user interfaces.
Karen is the author of a new business book about developing profitable
online user experiences, published in 2002 by McGraw-Hill. Built
for Use: Driving Profitability Through the User Experience is
the first business book about user experience, present and future.
An engaging speaker, she has given talks at national and international
conferences such as Internet World, SIGGRAPH, SIGCHI and Seybold
Seminars.
She is currently a member of the Board of Advisors
for Metacarta, a technology
startup that originated at MIT and serves on the Board of Directors
of the MIT Enterprise Forum. She is an inventor of six U.S. patents
for user interface technologies.
Karen holds an M.S. from the MIT Media Laboratory
(1993), and a B.S. in Computer Science from Tufts University (1987).
While a graduate student at MIT, she also studied design at the
Harvard University Carpenter Center.
