For the Tufts University Spring Producthon 2024 competition held on February 24, 2024, Karen Donoghue delivered a talk titled “Problem Discovery and Scoping” to an audience of 30 attendees via Zoom for 30 minutes. During her talk, Karen shared and explained concepts/frameworks such as the double diamond process, product lifecycle, and solution validation. After completing her talk she answered Q&A from attendees.

Speaker bio
Karen Donoghue is a consulting product designer for corporate clients and an Advisor on product design for early-stage startups through her company HumanLogic. Karen has designed initial releases of products that have produced significant impact, including the UX for Resilient Systems, a startup acquired by IBM Security. She has recently consulted on product design for continuous therapeutic cardiac monitoring at General Prognostics, a startup in Boston pioneering a novel AI platform to monitor complex chronic diseases remotely through biomarkers.
Karen also serves as an Advisor to startups including Turivius (Sao Paolo), and SecurityScorecard (NYC). Karen recently completed a multi-year advisory role at Aiberry (Seattle), a startup venture delivering a software solution for real-time mental health insights and monitoring. In addition, Karen was an advisor to the founders of MetaCarta (a startup acquired by Nokia). Karen also recently served a one-year appointment as an advisor to the Tufts University Department of Computer Science.
Karen is an inventor and author of two business books on user experience. After earning a BS in Computer Science from Tufts University, she earned an MS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab. Her research at the Media Lab focused on gesture languages for HCI. Karen has published two business books on User Experience Design, the most recent of which is “Envision Product: User Experience for Founders” (2021).
